2007: Kick it up a Notch!

Congratulations! You successfully made it through another year. When you look back on 2006 I hope you are able to smile and appreciate all of your wonderful accomplishments. This is a great time to reflect on all of your hopes, wants and needs in all areas of your life. In the past year, have these needs been met, put on hold, or been forgotten about all together?

Instead of dwelling on those things that didn’t happen this past year, like losing those 10 pounds or getting that new job, let’s recount all of the great things that happened to you and be thankful for them. Ahhhh.

Now, to make the most of your 2007, kick it off with a new lease on life. Make a plan! Putting things in writing is the best way to keep your goals clear. How is life going to give you the things that you want if you don’t even know what they are? If it sounds hokey than just ask the most successful people you know. Chances are they all have written goals. A recent study reports that only 45% of Americans set resolutions compared to 88% in the past. According to the study, only 8% of the people achieve their resolutions. I challenge you to be a statistic. Be part of the 8%.

Part 2: Kick it up a Notch: Goal Setting How To

How to begin:

1. In a dedicated journal or notebook write your categories at the top of the page. Categories can include: Career, Relationships (intimate, friends, family), Health, Home, Spirituality, Travel, Charity, Finances, Education, Fun and any others you can think of. Pick the ones that speak to you most or that you may have ignored the most.
2. In each category, write as many goals as you can think of for the next year.
3. Write them in the present tense as if they have already happened.
4. Make them specific and measurable.
5. Include a timeline. “I have accomplished x, by x/x/07.”
6. Have fun with it!

Review your journal as often as possible and it is okay to add or edit your goals as your year goes along. Reading them daily keeps them fresh in your mind and not just a resolution that you made way back in January and never thought about again. At the end of the year, go back and review your goals. I bet you will be pleasantly surprised!

If your goals for 2007 include increasing your health and intensifying your workouts then make sure you check out this upcoming nutrition seminar on Saturday, February 10. I will be returning from a week-long detox program and health seminar and plan on sharing my new knowledge with everyone who attends.
